I'm glad I was awake to hear your call
Without you waking me this time
Like you usually do

Did you wake up hungry?
Let me feed you
Let's go check the fridge
We can eat side by side
Here's the can of beef in gravy fancy feast you love so much
I have leftover wings to eat alongside you
It gets lonely in the night sometimes doesn't it?

Is that why sometimes you wake me up
Yarbling with a sock in your mouth
"Hello? Hello? Wake up! Wake up!"
"I come bearing gifts!"

And when I grumble my way over to let you in
You chirp and trot your way past me
To the food bowl
And then to your bed of pillows by the closet door
Close enough to hear our snores
And know you're home
Know you're safe
