Roommate
Pelicans dive
Like great fighter jets
Pirouetting in the sky
Like a twisting agony
Compels them to dance
Down down
Casting clay ballots
In the great pool below
Deciding our exile from Athens
We are already on the crowded
River Styx that arcs above the earth
In paddle-to-paddle traffic
We nearly crash
Watching albatrossean giants
Pierce the veil
That separates us from
Falling into the sea
We are casting our roommate
Into the belly of a great bird
Yet his exile will not last a decade
But rather only a week
